Description

Very wayward writer, only writes just what happens to strike fancy; never can return to view; does thing as well as can then has go at something else; glad friend likes Stickit One; knows far cry to Grey Man which was his humour to do last; just now writing something thinks friend will like - idyll of Galloway about fifty years ago; some chapters appearing in Lady's Realm but selected ones only for fears book will be too rough-spun to delight magazine public; Lad's Love meant to be tragic idyll of loves of Lowland countryside and types not been tried before thinks - poacher, shepherd and his neglected children, love-questing lads, three hoydenish beauties of parish and their transformation, upper surface of rough humour, undercurrent of stress and tragedy; wants if can to show may be intensity and passionate abandonment to love or hate among silent Scottish folk as complete as among any hot blooded Italians; supposes editors and publishers would object if told aught of plot but may say book not very long one; whether liked or not is one which feels must write to show motives of farm and cot need not be trivial and grant passion moves men and women as grandly or devilishly there as elsewhere; mayn't be much when done but anyway will try best to write as sees it; PS Lad's Love will be published in March by Bliss & Sands with very beautiful illustrations
