S.R. Crockett

It won't do laddie, can't come to town - work and things domestic against him; wife ill and indeed only uncertainly well ever now; but may see friend in January; if has big occasion will do duty then, second week or thereabouts; wearying to see good staunch face and kindly eyes; things other than those spoken of march well; thanks thousand times for noble article in Lit World and splendid one in Queen; has friend who sends selected ones and his were among those sent; infinitely good and though does his best doesn't deserve half friend's goodness; PS if ever writes don't say anything about wife's illness, not thing to write about, will tell when sees him
