Description

Malcolm McLachlan Harper (1839–1914) was a Scottish landscape painter, local historian, author and Captain in the Galloway Rifle Volunteers, based in Castle Douglas. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy between 1888 and 1908, and his work is represented in regional collections including the Stewartry Museum. Harper wrote several works on Galloway’s history and literature, including Rambles in Galloway (1876) and The Bards of Galloway (1889), and the biographical/memoir Crockett and Grey Galloway (1907)
