Referring to conversation this morning; now write formally to put on record terms on which Pemberton agreed to commission Mr S.R. Crockett to write new short story for publication in Cassell's Magazine: (1) purchase British serial rights for forthcoming Cassell's Magazine number only then all rights revert to author, (2) story to be 5-6 thousand words in length, (3) manuscript to be delivered not later than first day of July 1899, (4) pay on receipt of manuscript sum calculated at £10 per thousand words, (5) to be published probably in Christmas Number on date to be fixed giving not less than three months notice so ample time to arrange simultaneous serial publication in USA and elsewhere outside Great Britain and Ireland, (6) will print at foot of first page American copyright notice with wording to be agreed; requests confirmation
