Building Raiderland: The Business Behind the Book.

Behind the published book lies a five-year negotiation in letters and contracts. This article follows the correspondence between S.R. Crockett, his illustrator Joseph Pennell, his agent A.P. Watt, and his publisher Hodder & Stoughton — through a dropped subscription edition, a renegotiated royalty, and a title agreed only at proof stage — to show how Raiderland (1904) came to exist as a physical book, quite apart from what the finished text says about Galloway.
