Welcome to The Reading Room

The S.R. Crockett Museum Reading Room opens on 31st October 2025.
This space will feature in-depth articles exploring S.R. Crockett’s life, works, and cultural legacy. Our Deep Dive series begins with two substantial analyses:
31st October: “The Black Water Remembers” – exploring Crockett’s sophisticated Gothic tale of betrayal and supernatural justice in “A Cry Across the Black Water”
12th November: “In Galloway’s Woods and Trees” – examining how Crockett’s fiction preserves Galloway’s lost woodland heritage and offers prescient environmental insights
Each article will be available to read online and download as a PDF for deeper study.
We’ll be adding new content regularly, with articles appearing weekly throughout November and beyond. Categories include Deep Dive analysis, Connections between Crockett and other writers, Correspondence from the archives, Hand in Hand comparative studies, Mythbusters addressing misconceptions, and Serials exploring his longer works.
Visit us again from 31st October to begin your journey into Crockett’s literary world.
