Title A name given to the resource William Wallace Description An account of the resource Born 17th November 1843 Culross Fife, son of Jasper Wallace, master-gardener. Educated at the Geddes Institution, Culross; Aberdeen Grammar School and University (MA). Taught classics at Ayr Academy before entering journalism as assistant-editor of the Edinburgh Courant, then editor of the Dumfries Herald. Contributed to Fraser's Magazine, the Spectator, the Echo, and other London papers while qualifying for the Bar. Joined the Glasgow Herald in 1888 as assistant-editor; editor 1906–09. Principal works: Scotland Yesterday (1891); the revised Chambers' Life and Works of Robert Burns (1892), for which Glasgow University awarded him the LL.D; and the edited Burns-Dunlop correspondence (1898). Contributed the Burns and Carlyle entries to Chambers' Cyclopaedia of Literature. Connection to S.R. Crockett: Reviewed many of Crockett's works in the literary press of the day, including for The Academy, the British Weekly, and The Bookman. A significant figure in the critical reception of Crockett's fiction throughout his career.
